This story makes us think that people are good. If these farmers hadn’t been so nice, a young man wouldn’t have been able to get his family farm back. This story takes place in Nebraska, and it’s about a family who lost their farm many years ago.
It wasn’t their fault, so all the farmers at the auction agreed to let them win back the land. All of the farmers decided to keep quiet so that the auctioneer would have to give this family the farm they came to bid on.
HOW COULD THEY HAVE LOST THE FARM?
A few years ago, one of this family’s ancestors sold their farm to a relative who didn’t care much about farming. This is how this family lost their farm. The whole family was upset because they had been taking care of the farm well.
They were all great farmers who knew what they were doing in that area. Anyway, they knew a lot about farming, so they were sure that the relative who got the farm wouldn’t keep it for long.
So, they started saving money so that they would be ready when the time came to sell the farm, most likely at an auction. They knew that they would have a chance to get their farm back after a few years.
WHAT SHOCKED EVERYONE AT THE AUCTION AND WHY
The day finally came, but they didn’t have a lot of money. So, their only hope was that not so many people would want to buy their family farm. But when they got there, they knew they didn’t have much of a chance because there were already 200 farmers there.
They knew what an auction was and how it worked. Whenever people bid on something, the person who bids the most money on it wins. Anyway, David and his father were looking forward to the day they could show off their farm. So when the time came, they put in their bids and waited for the other person to try to beat them.
On the other hand, though, there were no voices at all. No one tried to get their farm. 200 farmers didn’t say anything. Not because the farm wasn’t worth the money, but because they wanted David and his father to get back to owning and working on their farm.
HOW DID EVERYTHING GO DOWN?
So, it turned out that everyone there had already agreed on something. They didn’t want to stop this family from getting their farm back, so they decided not to get in their way.
David and his father did not ask them to do it. All of them just wanted to help out their fellow farmers. The auctioneer tried to sell the land by telling them how great it was and giving them time to think about it, but no one was interested. In the end, the auctioneer had to sell the farm to David’s family, so the land went back to where it belonged.
David said after the auction that he would never forget that day! It was great!
