Coming home to their families is one of the most heartwarming things that can happen. This story is about a hero named Captain Kody Kermerling and his twin daughters, who are in college.
Since their father was in Kuwait for 10 months, he couldn’t take Maria and Micaela to college. But he went to one of the most important games of the season at the University of Missouri.
Everyone at the college did something to help make the surprise visit happen. The twins’ coach talked them into making their dad the “Veterans United Hero of the Day” during the game.
Micaela said, “We were cheering at the Mizzou basketball game, and we were just told that we were going to go represent our dad out there for the Veterans United Hero of the Day, and we had no idea that he was going to be there.”
Micaela was turned around by a hand while the other girls were cheering on the floor. Micaela said, “I felt like someone grabbed me out of the blue.” My first thought was, “Who’s holding me? What’s going on?” Then I turned around and saw that it was him!’
When the twins saw that it was their dad, they started to cry and hug him right away. This great reunion was made possible by the work of their cheer coach and the University of Missouri as a whole.
So much is given up by our soldiers for America. Giving up family time is a big part of many sacrifices, like sending your daughters to college. Captain Kody Kermerling made it home safely, and he surprised everyone with a visit that made everyone in the stadium cheer.
