At the beginning of this video, a young man named Dakota Striplin starts singing and playing guitar with an angelic voice. A judge turns around in her seat and puts her hand on her heart right away.
Suddenly, another judge stands up and says, “I need to see what’s going on here.” At the end of his song, one of the judges says how happy she is that he is here. The judges can’t believe he wasn’t just singing, but also playing.
People ask him why he picked that song and artist. Dakota says that Elvis inspired him and that his grandmother used to love going to his shows, so it’s a running joke that he could be his grandson. When the judges see the similarity, they laugh.
Dakota starts to tell his story and says that his dad doesn’t talk much about it. But his grandmother used to go to Hawaii and help Elvis with his shows. She would take Dakota’s dad to Hawaii with her, but none of her other kids.
When Elvis died, his grandmother was sad in a deeper, more personal way. A DNA test done a few years ago showed that his grandfather is not his grandfather. Because of this, people think that Dakota’s grandfather is Elvis.
After the story, two judges get up and say they want to be his coach. In the end, he chooses the judge who first agreed with him. Then there is a knockout round clip of Dakota singing.
We may not always know where we came from, but we can always rest in the fact that who we are in Christ doesn’t change. When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we are always a part of God’s family.
