Paula Gerzlak-Schultz decided to leave her car at the restaurant after spending time with her husband so she wouldn’t have to drive home after drinking.
If you’ve ever left your car somewhere at night, you probably know the fear of coming back to find a report on the windshield, an angry note from a business owner, or, in the worst case, no car because it was towed or, god forbid, stolen.
Paula was surprised the next day when she went back to the “Original Joes” restaurant in Alberta, Canada, to get into her car and found that none of these bad things had happened. Instead, she found a touching note from the restaurant on the windshield of her car.
Paula posted the note on Facebook, and more than 10,000 people shared it and 30,000 people liked it.
Here’s what was written on the note.
Dear customer of Original Joe’s,
I just wanted to say thanks for leaving your car in the parking lot overnight. I don’t know if you drank alcohol at our restaurant or not, but we wanted to thank you for not getting behind the wheel after drinking. There’s a coupon for 1 lb of our delicious chicken wings in the envelope. Please take the voucher as a thank you for being responsible. Life is worth living, so have a good weekend.
One of the restaurant’s managers, Jay McLean, wrote the beautiful and touching note.
McLean said that he started putting notes on people’s cars to tell them not to drink and drive. He fights against drunk driving by being kind and setting a good example.
